2027 Corvette Grand Sport Returns With New 535-HP LS6 V8 Engine

Chevrolet officially revealed the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport on March 26, 2026. The car gets a brand-new 6.7-liter V8 engine called the LS6, which makes 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. A second model, called the Grand Sport X, adds a front electric motor and delivers a combined 721 horsepower.

This is one of the biggest engine updates in Corvette history. The new LS6 is only the sixth all-new small-block V8 design in General Motors’ 72-year history with the engine — and it starts right here in the Grand Sport.

A New Engine Powers the Whole Lineup

The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport runs on the new LS6 V8, and so does the 2027 Stingray. The LS6 replaces the older 6.2-liter LT2 engine, which made 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

The new engine is larger at 6.7 liters. It uses forged internal parts and a higher compression ratio of 13:1 — the highest of any Corvette engine ever made. These upgrades give the car more pull at low speeds and more power at high speeds.

Chevy also gave the LS6 a new intake design and better-flowing exhaust headers. The engine weighs only about 20 pounds more than the old one, which engineers say is a small trade-off for the big power gain.

Two Grand Sport Models to Choose From

Buyers can pick between two versions. The standard Grand Sport uses rear-wheel drive and the new LS6 engine. The Grand Sport X adds an electric motor on the front axle — the same setup found in the Corvette E-Ray — to create an all-wheel-drive hybrid that makes 721 combined horsepower. The Grand Sport X replaces the E-Ray in Chevy’s lineup.

Both versions come in coupe or convertible body styles. They also wear the wider body from the Corvette Z06, along with the signature hash marks on the rear fenders — a design detail that first appeared on the 1996 Grand Sport.

Both models come standard with MagneRide, Chevy’s adaptive suspension system. They also get a shorter final drive ratio for quicker acceleration off the line.

Performance Packages Push It Further

The rear-wheel-drive Grand Sport offers two optional upgrade packages. The Performance package adds summer Michelin tires and the brakes from the Z06. The Track package goes further with carbon-ceramic brakes, sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, and a carbon-fiber aero kit similar to the Z06.

Tony Roma, chief Corvette engineer, confirmed there will be no manual transmission option. “We don’t have any plans to talk about a manual transmission,” Roma told reporters at the car’s preview at the 12 Hours of Sebring race in Florida.

A special Launch Edition will also be available, featuring a blue-dipped interior with red stitching and accents.

What It Will Cost — and When It Arrives

Chevrolet has not officially confirmed pricing yet. Based on where the Grand Sport sits in the lineup — above the $70,000 Stingray and below the $120,000 Z06 — analysts and industry observers expect the base Grand Sport to start somewhere between $85,000 and $95,000. The Grand Sport X is expected to land near or just above $100,000.

Production of the rear-wheel-drive Grand Sport starts this summer, with deliveries expected at dealerships around the same time. The all-wheel-drive Grand Sport X follows in the fall.

Background

The Grand Sport nameplate dates back to the original Corvettes of the 1960s. It returned in the C6 and C7 generations as the sweet spot between the base Stingray and the track-focused Z06. The C8 (eighth-generation) Corvette launched in 2019 without a Grand Sport — until now. This is the first time a Grand Sport model has arrived with a brand-new engine mid-generation.

What Happens Next

Chevrolet will announce official pricing closer to the summer on-sale date. Performance testing and full specifications are expected to follow soon. The new LS6 engine is also expected to appear in future GM trucks, including the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
