Mercedes has unveiled the updated 2027 Maybach S-Class on March 24, 2025. The car gets a bolder new look, more cabin tech, and keeps its powerful V12 engine. U.S. buyers can expect it to arrive at dealerships in the second half of 2025.

Why This Matters
The Maybach S-Class is one of the most expensive and luxurious cars you can buy. In a world moving toward SUVs and electric cars, Mercedes is doubling down on big, fancy sedans. This update shows the Maybach is here to stay.
A Much Bolder Look Outside
The 2027 Maybach S-Class looks more dramatic than the car it replaces. The front grille is now 20 percent bigger. It has an illuminated border and a glowing Maybach name badge across the front.
The three-pointed star hood ornament now lights up too. The Maybach double-M logo appears on the front air intakes. The emblem on the C-pillar — the roof pillar near the rear window — also glows at night.
The headlights feature two stars in each unit, used as daytime running lights. Rose gold accents are scattered across the front end. Projector lights built into the side sills light up the ground below the doors.
Mercedes says these changes “project quiet authority.” Buyers can choose from more than 150 exterior colors. That includes two-tone options and a new Nautic Blue shade.
New wheel designs are also on offer. A 20-inch set comes with a polished finish. A larger 21-inch option features gold accents. The wheel center caps stay level on their own as the wheels spin.

Three Engines, Including a Surviving V12
The 2027 Maybach S-Class offers multiple engine choices depending on where you live.
S580 (V8): The base engine is a mild-hybrid 4.0-liter V8. It makes 530 horsepower and gets the big sedan from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.
S680 (V12): The top engine is a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12. It produces 621 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. It also hits 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. A nine-speed automatic gearbox sends power to all four wheels.
S580e (Plug-In Hybrid): In select markets, Mercedes will sell a plug-in hybrid version. It pairs a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with an electric motor. Combined output is 577 horsepower — a 74-horsepower jump over the outgoing model. It carries a 21.96-kWh battery and offers up to 61 miles of electric-only driving on the European WLTP test cycle.
All versions come with rear-axle steering and air suspension. The suspension reads data from other Mercedes cars on the road to smooth out bumps before the wheels hit them.
A High-Tech Cabin With Hundreds of Options
The inside of the 2027 Maybach S-Class is where things get truly special. Mercedes fitted it with the MBUX Superscreen — a setup made of three separate displays.
There is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with rose gold dials. A 14.4-inch screen sits in the center of the dashboard. A third 12.3-inch screen faces the front passenger. All three run on Mercedes’ MB.OS software platform.
Buyers can choose from more than 400 interior colors. Four new two-tone leather combinations are new for 2027. The color pairings include Carmine Red, Lake Green, Corn Yellow, and Tobacco Brown — each paired with black leather. Natural Grain Brown Amber Wood trim is also new.
The steering wheel has been lightly redesigned. It adds back a few toggle switches that were missing from the previous version.

New Driver-Assist Tech Rolls Out in Stages
The 2027 Maybach S-Class can be ordered with Level 2 driver assistance — called MB.Drive Assist Pro. Cars with this system have cameras built into the front fenders, making them easy to spot.
Mercedes is launching this technology in China first. The United States will get it next. European availability is possible but depends on local regulations.
Background
The Maybach S-Class has been one of the world’s most exclusive luxury sedans for years. It sits above the standard Mercedes S-Class and competes with cars like the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur. The current generation went on sale several years ago, and the 2027 version is a mid-cycle facelift — meaning the basic structure stays the same while the looks and tech get a refresh.
Mercedes updated the standard S-Class earlier this year. The Maybach version follows the same design direction, with extra Maybach-specific styling on top.
What Happens Next
European order books open on March 25, 2025 — one day after the reveal. U.S. buyers will have to wait until the second half of 2025 for cars to arrive at dealerships. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but the current 2025 Maybach S-Class starts at around $204,000 in the United States.
