General Motors issued a Chevrolet C8 Corvette stop sale order for 3,324 vehicles at U.S. dealerships in April 2026. The 2025 and 2026 model year cars have a faulty exterior lighting control module that fails to alert drivers when rear brake lights stop working.

Why the Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stop Sale Matters
Brake lights warn drivers behind you when you slow down or stop. If a brake light goes out and the car does not alert you, the risk of a rear-end crash goes up. GM pulled affected cars from dealer lots to fix the problem before more buyers take delivery.
What Is the Brake Light Problem?
The problem is in the Corvette’s lighting control module. This module runs the rear brake light outage detection system. It is supposed to warn the driver when a rear turn signal or brake lamp fails.
In the affected cars, the system can fail to send that warning. A driver could be on the road with a dead brake light and not know about it.
The issue is filed under NHTSA recall number 26V213 and GM program number N252541250.
How Many C8 Corvettes Are Affected?
A total of 3,324 C8 Corvettes fall under this stop sale. The breakdown is 2,886 units from the 2026 model year and 438 units from the 2025 model year. Affected models include the Corvette Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray.
What Is the Fix for the Corvette Stop Sale?
For 2026 model year Corvettes, dealers can flash the lighting control module with new software. Owners who turned on over-the-air (OTA) updates can also get the fix sent directly to their car.
For the 438 Corvettes from the 2025 model year, GM has not released a fix yet. The company has not shared a timeline for when the repair will be ready.
What Should Corvette Owners Do?
If you own a 2025 or 2026 C8 Corvette, contact your local Chevrolet dealer. Ask them to check if your car is part of this stop sale. You can also look up your VIN on the NHTSA website.
Owners of 2026 models should turn on their OTA update settings. This way, the software fix installs automatically when GM pushes it out.
Owners of 2025 models will need to wait for GM to release a repair. Stay in touch with your dealer for updates.
What Happens Next
GM plans to roll out the software update to all affected 2026 Corvettes in the coming weeks. A timeline for the 2025 model year fix has not been announced yet.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet recently revealed the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport with a new 535-hp LS6 V8 engine. The Grand Sport debuted at Sebring and marks the next chapter for the Corvette lineup.
