New Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series and GT3 Officially Confirmed

Mercedes-AMG officially confirmed on March 24, 2026, that a brand-new GT Black Series is coming — and it will be the most extreme Black Series road car ever made. The company also revealed a next-generation GT3 race car is in development alongside it, both built on the same platform.

This is big news for performance car fans. The two cars will be developed together from the same base, which means the new Black Series road car will carry over real race car technology directly — something AMG has never done quite like this before.

What AMG Actually Confirmed

The Concept AMG GT Track Sport, which AMG showed off in 2025, is the technology platform for both the new GT3 race car and the future GT Black Series road car.

The road-legal Black Series will serve as the homologation model for the new GT3 — meaning the street car must exist for the race car to be legal in competition.

This marks a change in approach, as previous Black Series models have tended to arrive towards the end of a car’s run, serving as a final sendoff. This time, the Black Series arrives early — right alongside the race car.

What the New Black Series Will Look Like

The new GT Black Series will feature more aggressive aero, including a towering rear wing, massive front splitter, vents in the hood, front fenders, and rear bumper, as well as a huge air diffuser out back.

AMG described the new road-going model as its most extreme Black Series yet, placing it above the GT 63 Pro — itself conceived as the most track-focused model in the second-generation GT line-up.

The GT 63 develops 577bhp, while the GT 63 Pro lifts that to 603bhp. The next Black Series will move well beyond that, said AMG. Engine details have not been released yet.

Testing Already Underway

Mercedes-AMG has been testing the prototype on test tracks and racetracks since October 2025, using a yellow-green and red camouflage livery.

Test locations have included AMG’s in-house track in Immendingen, as well as Bilster Berg, Portimão, and Monteblanco.

Development has now progressed to the Nürburgring-Nordschleife — one of the world’s toughest race tracks — marking the next major stage of testing.

Red will represent the Mercedes-AMG GT3 as a central element of the AMG Motorsport colour scheme, while yellow-green will represent the GT Black Series.

A New Company Will Build the GT3

Development is being led by Affalterbach Racing GmbH, a newly established wholly-owned AMG subsidiary that effectively brings customer racing in-house for the first time. The company takes over from HWA AG, which had been the backbone of AMG’s GT racing programme since 2010.

HWA AG built every AMG GT race car going back to the SLS AMG GT3. The new subsidiary signals that AMG wants full control of its racing future.

What the People at AMG Said

“We are developing the most extreme Black Series ever. At the same time, we want to set the next record-breaker in motorsport with the future GT3. The foundation for this is the Concept AMG GT Track Sport — a technology demonstrator that was more than just a concept from the very start,” Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said on March 24.

“With the unveiling of the concept, we can now officially name the new Mercedes-AMG GT3, with which we aim to continue the success story in Customer Racing for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. Our goal is to once again present a vehicle that sets the benchmark,” Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, said in a statement.

Background: What Black Series Means

Since 2006, selected models have carried the Black Series badge as the pinnacle of the Mercedes-AMG range.

Between 2021 and 2023, the GT Black Series was sold as the most powerful Mercedes-badged production car to date, with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 making 537kW and 800Nm of torque.

That car set a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 6:43.616 in 2020 — the fastest road-legal production vehicle at the time, before it was later beaten by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey. The new Black Series will aim to reclaim that crown.

What Happens Next

The GT3 is slated for delivery to customer teams around the end of 2026, giving teams enough time to prepare for the 2027 racing season.

A debut for the Black Series road car is expected later this year, lining up with the GT3 timeline.

Mercedes-AMG has said more details on both vehicles will be announced at a later date. No price, final power figures, or on-sale date have been confirmed yet.
